'BOW'
Bow (short for Bowmore named after that wonderful palecoloured whisky made on Islay)
came into our lives as a present from Joyce and Roy Cox (Pickersditch). They had encouraged
us to get involved in dog showing a few years earlier and things took off in a big way
with the arrival of this pale cream bundle. They kept his brother Mikey who took a
dislike to the show ring!
We were lucky, too, that the stud dog owners Mal and Sheila Watkins (Tamarley) took a
keen interest in Bow.
He amazed us as a puppy qualifying for Crufts at his 2nd champ show, winning Best Puppy
Dog then at Crufts itself being placed 3rd in the special puppy class. His show career took
off and I travelled all over UK attending shows. He gained his stud book number. We even
ventured across the water to the Munster circuit in Ireland where we made so many friends,
winning a reserve green star and many firsts in the process. This began a love for that
country and the people that has not waned.
Bow was a real character, a happy dog who loved the sea most of all. He would swim for
hours in the water and bystanders would ask if they should call for the coast guards to save
him. He was only intent on swimming after the sea birds which just flew further out to sea
when he got near them! His swimming activities certainly kept him ‘fit for purpose’.
He was our handsome boy who slept at the foot of the bed when he was no longer able to get
on it! We had 15 wonderful years with him and miss him dreadfully but he has gone to meet up
with his pals Islay and Rye. He had a very special place in our hearts.
Along the rugged highway
You found a little lane
That led you into heaven
And ended any pain
We cannot bring the old times back
When we were all together
But memories of you dear Bow
Will be with us forever
Be good little man
